From the Department Chair

To our valued students and visitors to our website who wish to learn more about our Department,

Welcome to the YTÜ Department of Mechatronics Engineering website. First and foremost, I pray for God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in the recent natural disasters in our country, and I wish patience and strength to those left behind. As a nation, I wholeheartedly believe that we will overcome all these challenges.

Our Department, which provides education and training services at our university’s Yıldız-Beşiktaş Campus, was officially established in 2008, began its operations, and graduated its first class in 2012. As of now, we have two undergraduate programs accredited by MÜDEK: one taught 30% in English and the other 100% in English. Each year, these programs admit 50 and 60 domestic students, respectively, and 40 and 20 international students, respectively.  As of now, we have 851 undergraduate, 109 master’s, and 45 doctoral students enrolled. Our undergraduate enrollment figure includes students in the mandatory English preparatory class as well as those who have transferred from other programs through horizontal or vertical transfer.

During the recent pandemic, we strove to conduct our distance learning activities as effectively as possible. We will not forget the extraordinary efforts of our previous Department Chair.

In line with the MÜDEK accreditation obtained in previous periods, in addition to our education and teaching activities, our KOOP (Professional Training in the Workplace) program has also begun as of Spring 2023. Detailed information regarding KOOP is readily available on our website.

Our department offers contemporary, advanced, forward-thinking, and quality-oriented undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs with an academic staff consisting of 12 faculty members and 9 research assistants who are experts in their fields, well-equipped, and idealistic. The primary goal of these educational programs is to cultivate observant, research-oriented, and design-minded individuals who can adapt to national and international conditions and needs and play a leading role in the country’s future. To this end, our department maintains close collaboration with both national and international partners.

In addition to its educational activities, our department’s faculty members have completed numerous basic and applied research projects beneficial to people and society, supported by TÜBİTAK, the Ministry of Development, the Istanbul Development Agency, YTÜ’s Research Fund (BAP), and private-sector organizations.  There are currently numerous ongoing and preparatory research projects. These efforts result in patents, marketable prototype products, and scientific articles.

Many of our undergraduate students receive support through the TÜBİTAK 2209 A and B Undergraduate Thesis Project Support Programs, and our university ranks among the top institutions in terms of the number of students receiving this support. Information regarding these supported projects is also available on our website.

We continue the effective and successful initiatives we launched in previous academic years and are further developing our laboratories. We have workshops and laboratories that are actively utilized to serve our undergraduate students.

I invite everyone who is interested in and curious about the field of mechatronics engineering and aims to receive a quality engineering education to join our department, which embraces the philosophy of “learning engineering by doing and experiencing.” I would like to note that all faculty members, research assistants, and technical and administrative staff in our department will take great pleasure in assisting you with any questions you may have.

With best wishes for a successful lifelong career to all our current and future graduates…
