Announcement Regarding Course Selection and Enrollment Quotas

Dear Students,

To ensure you do not encounter any difficulties during the course selection process for the academic term and can complete your registration correctly, you must strictly adhere to the rules listed below.

1. Basic Course Registration Rules

  • Students are required to select only courses belonging to the program in which they are enrolled (30% English or 100% English).
  • Selecting courses from a different group is permitted only for students who will be eligible for graduation by the end of the semester in which they are enrolled (Fall 2026-2027), provided they submit a general petition form explaining their situation and their request is approved.
  • Students may take courses from different departments only if they are eligible for graduation by the end of the semester in which they are enrolled (Fall 2026–2027) and their graduation would be delayed at the end of the semester because the relevant course is not offered during the semester in which they are enrolled.
  • Process: The content of the course to be taken from another department must be reviewed by the instructor responsible for the course in our department that is to be counted as its equivalent, and approval stating “approved” must be obtained. Along with the “Approved” endorsement, the Application for Taking a Course from Another Department, the OBS course schedule, and the syllabus of the course to be taken must be submitted to our department for evaluation. If the department’s evaluation deems the request appropriate, it will be formally notified to the Faculty in writing; if the Faculty also deems it appropriate, the relevant course will be entered into the OBS system by the Faculty Secretariat in accordance with the decision of the Faculty Administrative Board.
  • A maximum of 25 local credits may be taken in a single semester, provided there are no course conflicts. Students with a GPA of 3.00 or higher may increase this limit to 28 credits.
  • Students whose AGNO is below 2.00 for two consecutive semesters may not take courses from higher semesters. (This rule applies starting from the beginning of the fifth semester.)
  • Course registration opens at 9:00 a.m. on the specified date for each class level. Course descriptions are available at bologna.yildiz.edu.tr.

Important Note: Adding or dropping courses via written request is strictly prohibited.

2. Enrollment Quotas and Class Grouping

  • Quota Increases: Quotas for department courses are increased solely by the Department. Priority in the evaluation process is given to current students enrolled in the relevant course and students in the final stages of graduation.
  • Quota Update Times: Quota increases will generally take place at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  • Professional Elective Courses: Enrollment capacity increases will not be made until capacity balance is achieved among the offered course groups and the course group enrollment capacities are filled.
  • Common Service Courses: Courses with the codes MAT, FİZ, MDB, and TDB are common service courses offered university-wide to various departments. The authority to increase enrollment capacity for these courses lies with the respective departments.
  • Cancelled Courses: After cancelled courses are announced (September 23), students whose courses have been cancelled may register for another course with available seats via OBS by the specified date (September 24).

3. Elective Courses and Equivalency Procedures

Course Type

Important Rules

University Professional Elective Courses (UMS)

To avoid issues on the transcript, courses with different codes but equivalent content should not be taken together. (For example, a student taking course MKT3812 should not select course MAK4482.) The Mechatronics Systems Integration course (code MKT4003) will not be offered to students in our department.

University Social Elective Courses

These courses must be selected from the relevant course pool. Students should not take more social elective courses than the number required for graduation. The necessary course credit adjustments must be made for courses in which the student has previously failed or that were taken to improve a grade.

4. Communication and Submitting Requests

To ensure that all your requests regarding course selection, enrollment capacity, scheduling conflicts, etc., are taken into consideration, it is important that you adhere to our communication guidelines:

  • Email Address: Requests must be submitted exclusively via a student email address with the yildiz.edu.tr domain to mkt@yildiz.edu.tr.
  • Subject Line: The type of request must be clearly stated in the email subject line. (e.g., “Enrollment Capacity Request,” “Schedule Conflict Request”)

Note: Requests made by phone or from personal email addresses will not be considered.

We wish all our students a successful course registration period.
